  In May 2017, the value added of industries above designated size increased by 6.5% year on year in real terms (all subsequent growth rates for value added are real growth rates adjusted for price factors), unchanged from April. On a month-on-month basis, the value added of industries above designated size rose by 0.51% in May. From January to May, the value added of industries above designated size grew by 6.7% year on year.

  By industry, in May, value added increased year on year in 35 of the 41 major industrial categories. Notably, the textile industry expanded by 5.0%.

  By product category, in May, 408 out of 596 products recorded year-on-year output growth. Specifically, cloth production in May reached 6.3 billion meters, up 4.8% year on year; from January to May, total cloth output amounted to 28 billion meters, an increase of 4.2% over the same period last year.
