How can you effectively dehumidify and prevent mold on guestroom linens?

I. How can you prevent hotel bedding from becoming damp?
1. Keep the hotel room dry.
Inside the room, you can use limestone, charcoal, or desiccant packs to absorb moisture. Place them in small cloth bags and position them in various corners to keep the air dry, replacing the drying agents periodically. This is especially important during damp, rainy weather. To ensure proper ventilation, aim for the right timing—midday is an ideal time to open windows.
2. Hotel bedding should be aired out regularly.
After using bedding for a period of time, it should be aired in the sun or in a well-ventilated area, taking into account the characteristics of the fabric and filling. Following the plum rain season, pay close attention to the moisture level of your bedding; sunning it not only helps keep it dry but also makes it softer and fluffier.
II. How to prevent mold from forming on hotel bedding?
1. Eliminate the source
If mold has already appeared on the floor or furnishings in a room, you can wipe it down with alcohol or a specialized mold‑removal product, or clean it with diluted bleach. This will help eliminate existing mold stains; be sure to wear plastic gloves and a mask when cleaning. For wooden furniture such as wardrobes, first wipe it dry with a paper towel or brush it with a dry brush. Once the moldy areas are thoroughly cleaned, use a fan to dry them completely, and always place desiccants nearby to absorb moisture. If linens in the linen room become moldy, they must be sent to a professional laundry service for washing, and whether to replace them should be determined based on the results of that wash.
2. Change the environment
① Remove dampness
When relative humidity exceeds 60%, mold begins to proliferate, and at 80% it multiplies even more rapidly. Therefore, upon detecting mold, it’s important to keep indoor humidity around 40%. Typically, there are two common methods for dehumidification:
(1) Adsorption methods, such as placing desiccants, moisture-absorbing boxes, moisture-absorbing agents, or moisture-absorbing sticks in the corners of a room, and laying old newspapers on the floor to absorb moisture and prevent dampness;
(2) Mechanical method: Utilize the dehumidifying functions of dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and other appliances to achieve rapid moisture removal.
② Cleaning
On humid days, be sure to remind cleaning staff to thoroughly wipe down furniture, floors, and bathrooms, then follow up with a dry cloth or mop. After wiping, use a fan or air conditioner to speed up drying, or mop the floor with warm saltwater—both methods can help the flooring dry more quickly.
③ Ventilation
Ventilate according to the weather. If the indoor environment is damp and chilly, open windows to keep your living space dry. However, during “hui-nan” conditions or on rainy days with high humidity, close doors and windows tightly and use dehumidifying appliances like air conditioners to reduce moisture. Regularly inspect hard-to‑notice areas in your home—such as walls, ceilings, and potted plants—and if you spot any signs of mold, take prompt action to address the issue.
